I, the MISSIONARY

My experiences with the Missions...

What a Wal(wanda)ful Change!

Walwanda, Mokhada, July 05,2012:  In the opulent and scenic land of the Thane district lies vast expanses of unused land with many villages far flung;  villages nestled at the foot of myriad hills. Yet in stark contrast the people live in abject poverty, under the shadow of illiteracy, disease and exploitation.  Some people of the Mahadev Koli’s, and Kokanas find themselves economically well while the Warlis and Katkaris are always brow beaten and at the receiving end of poverty.
These tribal who once roamed freely as masters of the land, who lived in harmony with nature have now been termed as ‘encroachers’ by various departments of the government. The Jawahar, Mokhada and other talukas are so far away from the district HQ that in the circles of the government officers a posting to these areas was an indirect message of punishment. Hence these areas have always been seen with apathy and consequently have remained backward.
The Bosco Samajik Vikas Sanstha at Walwanda spearheaded by Fr. Anaclete aims at conscientizing people about their rights and privileges.  Aided by a number of social workers the villages slowly see the light of day.
On 1st July, ten brothers from Divyadaan took the first step towards this cause by deciding to help in educating the large number of students studying in the Ashramshalas.
Although the main aim would be familiarizing and drilling the students in English, the objective of the endeavour would be to make the people know that they are the people of the soil.  They are the sole agents of change towards a better tomorrow.
